Who We Are

What We Do

Veterans Casting Away Disabilities (Castaways) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving veterans with life-changing disabilities a place to heal, connect, and thrive. Through our signature annual fishing retreat and year-round support, we provide a safe, welcoming space where veterans and their caregivers can relax, share stories, and rebuild a sense of community.

Founded by veterans, for veterans, Castaways began with a simple idea: healing is easier when you’re surrounded by people who understand. Many of our participants live with visible or invisible injuries that can make everyday life feel isolating. At our events, they find more than just a week on the water—they find camaraderie, laughter, and the freedom to be themselves.

Our programs are made possible entirely through the generosity of donors, sponsors, and volunteers. Every dollar we receive goes directly toward hosting life-changing experiences for those who have served our country. Whether it’s the excitement of reeling in a big catch, the peace of watching a sunrise over the lake, or the quiet conversations that happen between friends, Castaways is where burdens feel lighter and hope feels stronger.

For those who have served, we provide more than a fishing trip. We offer a place to recharge, to forge lifelong friendships, and to rediscover the freedom that comes with open skies and open water.
