Special Dinner Event
Hello, fellow Castaways! I am reaching out to you today to update you on where
we are at, as I know many have seen that Honey Creek has had some issues, and
they will not be open in time to host us this year! So, in light of that, we would like
to invite you all to a FREE dinner!
It will be in Des Moines at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, three thousand Grand, in
the Varied Industries Building, on May 16, 2026! Social Time will start at 4:30 PM
with dinner at 6:30 PM. This will be a family-friendly event, so everyone is welcome! We plan to
have some guest speakers, silent auction items, and various other games! But
more importantly, have some fellowship time and talk more with all of you about
upcoming plans with Veterans Casting Away Disabilities and our annual fishing
event!
We are asking you to RSVP to advise us you are coming, and how many, so we can
get a handle on what our dinner needs may be. You can do that by sending me
your attendance plans via email at emtcandew@hotmail.com or by phone at
319-321-5169. Please share this information with fellow Veterans, volunteers, and
any sponsors that may be interested in our event as well.
There are hotels near the fairgrounds if you are interested, such as the Econo
Lodge, Comfort Inn, and Prairie Meadows, to name a few.

Bass for Birdies Golf Tournament
We are excited to announce the 3rd annual Bass for Birdies Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 6th, 2026.
All of the earnings from this event support our annual Castaways retreat. More information to come. Questions can be directed to Karen Fynaardt at kfynaardt@gmail.com.
Bass for Birdies Fundraiser
Four-person best ball event. Funds will support Veterans Casting Away Disabilities. Registration is at 9am and shotgun start at 10am. Entrance fee is $400 per team. For more information, contact Karen Fynaardt at (641)-660-1515.
Oskaloosa Pizza Ranch Fundraiser
Join us on Wednesday, August 27 at the Oskaloosa, IA Pizza Ranch. All purchases will be donated to the Castaways fishing event in May.
Annual All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry Fundraiser
On Saturday, August 23 at the Eagle 695 Club in Iowa City, we are hosting our annual Fish Fry Fundraiser. The event will start at 5:00 PM with a Silent Auction starting at 7:30 PM. We would also like to interview some of our Castaways participants for a promo we want to use to get that elusive sponsor. There will be raffle tickets for a gun/gift certificate, (for the gun or the value of the gun) at Scheels Sporting Goods in Iowa City, IA and a second place prize of a whole processed hog (hog and butchering only).
Fish Fry Gun Raffle
Raffle for a new Henry 360 Buckhammer (stock and grip choices shown).
Winner will be drawn at the Eagles during the annual fish fry around 8 pm Saturday August 24th
Eagles Fish Fry
Veterans Casting Away Disabilities is having their annual fish fry fund raiser at the Eagles Club 695, Iowa City Iowa! This event is one of the major fund raisers for this wondrous event!
There will be a several silent auctions items from which to bid on! Come join us for a free will donation for all the fish you can eat and supporting our Disabled Veterans!
