About Our Retreat
An Overview
What is the signature event?
Every year, Castaways hosts a week-long therapeutic fishing retreat for veterans with life-changing disabilities and their caregivers. It’s a chance to step away from daily life, enjoy time outdoors, and make connections.
What do our veterans do at the event?
Days are spent fishing, exploring the lake, and enjoying the peace that comes with being in nature. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just curious to try, the pace is up to you. We also enjoy sharing meals and sitting around the campfire in the evening. However, there’s no set agenda for how you connect—this is your week to spend in the way that feels right for you. The retreat ends with an all-you-can-eat fish fry.
What do our caregivers do at the event?
While the veterans are out on the water, caregivers enjoy their own time to relax and recharge with the Castaways Companion Program. Activities often include crafting, sharing meals, and enjoying daytime excursions such as shopping. It’s an opportunity for caregivers to unwind and connect with others.
